Kinsler Close, Rangers starting to win

Kins.jpg

Ian Kinsler is starting in Frisco tonight and should rejoin the Rangers by the weekend series in Seattle. I, for one, am looking foward to seeing him back. Kinlser is a monster bat and a great base stealer, not to mention a great defensive player. Now that is not to say that Arias and Blanco haven’t done a good job, they have done a better job than anyone expected, but you really can’t replace a player like Ian. And the fact that the Rangers are only 3 games out after 18 games without him, his return ought to be a big deal.

Back to the team. The Rangers have already done better against the Tigers than I expected, and if they win tonight they will have beaten the Tigers more times this season than they did last season. I now think they will. This is one prediction that I am glad to be wrong in, since I predicted they would loose 3 out of 4 on Friday. I now think that The Rangers are building some momentum and that they are going to start winning alot more. The pitching looks good, the hitting is starting to come around, and they are stealing bases like crazy this season. Let me know what you think, will the Rangers do good this season or are you already giving up on them. You can leave me a comment here, tweet me at bdieter75 or drop me an email at bdieter75@gmail.com and let me know what you think. As always, thanks for reading.

Boston Preview

The Rangers are having a bad start to the season. The good news, the Red Sox are having an even worse start, and the Rangers owned the Red Sox last season, winning 7 out of the 9 meetings between the two teams. The Rangers are doing something to try and fix their problem. They have move Elvis Andrus to the leadoff spot to take some pressure off of Julio Borbon, who is batting sub 100 with no walks in that spot. They are also going to start Matt Treanor more behind the plate, because, again Teagarden is batting sub 100 and looks lost and confused when he is batting. The Rangers starting pitching has been spot on so far this season, but their defense and relief pitching has been bad. Hopefully that will start to change this week, or we may be in for a long season.

Tonight:

Colby Lewis (2-0, 2.19 ERA)

vs.

Tim Wakefield (0-1, 5.11 ERA)

The Rangers have hit the ball well against Wakefield in the past and I see no reason why that will not continue tonight. The Rangers know how important tonights game is and I think they will rise to the challange. But we need not forget that tonights game is also very important for the Sox. It should be a tough battle but I think that the Rangers win tonights game and this series and begin to get back to winning baseball, or I think you may start to see some changes on the team. LETS Go RANGERS!!!!

Tommorow:

Matt Harrison, LHP (0-1, 1.38)

vs.

Josh Beckett, RHP (1-0, 3.86)

Again, Harrison has a fantastic ERA like most of the Ranger starters, lets see if he can get his first win agains a tough opponent in Beckett.

Wednesday:

C.J. Wilson, LHP (0-1, 2.08)

vs.

Clay Buchholz, RHP (1-1, 1.80)

Again, Wilson has been good, but so has Buchholz. This should be a great matchup to watch and I am looking foward to seeing CJ pitch again. He has looked great so far, and I think he has finally found his place as a starter.

Rangers win 2 out of 3.

Road Trip Time

Rangers – 4

Athletics – 5

The Rangers fought back from a 4-0 deficit only to lose in the 9th inning. All in all, it was a great series against the Athletics for the Rangers, and I really don’t expect that they will win every game left this season. The Rangers are now 30-20, still the best in the AL.

Up next they have a really big road trip. 3 in NY and 3 in Boston. Over the past few years, they have done better against the Yankees in NY than they have in Texas, so that should bode well for them, but they don’t normally do well in Boston. The Red Sox are playing good ball right now, but so are the Rangers. All in all, it is really just another 6 game road trip, but it is always fun to act like a trip like this means more.

TEX Vicente Padilla, RHP (3-2, 4.71) vs. NYY A.J. Burnett, RHP (3-2, 4.78)

Burnett pitched well in his last outing against the Rangers, hopefully that won’t happen again in NY.

Late Night

Rangers – 7

Yankees – 3

After a 2.5 hour rain delay off the top, the Rangers came out to prove something against Joba and the Yanks. They took the lead in the first inning and never gave it up. Millwood finally got some run support behind him. The Angels lost again so the Rangers are now 4 games up in the West

Up Next:

Derek Holland, LHP (1-1, 4.82)  vs. A.J. Burnett, RHP (2-2, 5.28)

Look for Holland to have another good start (he only made one mistake last game, but it cost him 3 runs). A.J. has been pitching good of late, but so was Joba. Look for the Rangers to take the series tonight on ESPN.

Back in Texas

May 22

Rangers – 6

Astros – 5

May 23

Rangers – 6

Astros – 3

The Texas Rangers are back on the winning tract now that Detroit is behind them. They have won another series even if they loose tommorow. They are now 25-17, tied with Boston for the second best record in the AL.

Up Next:

Brandon McCarthy, RHP (3-2, 5.60)  vs. Mike Hampton, LHP (2-3, 5.23)
The Rangers look for another sweep on the season before comming back to Arlington to face the Yankees and the Athletics.

The Ranger Craze

cruz.jpg

What is it about the 2009 Rangers that make them different then other Ranger teams over the past few seasons? Admitedly, they have been lacking in the last 5 to 9 years in just about everything but offense. Their offense has been magnificent, but everything else has been bad. Last season alone, the Rangers committed 132 Errors, which led the league by a bunch. Their team ERA was 5.37, the highest in the American League, and their ERA for the last 5 seasons averaged 4.85, much higher then the league average of around 4.50.  The League average for errors from 2004 -2008 was 101.4 errors per season, while the Rangers averaged 115.8 errors per season. So lets just say, pitching and defense were really bad.

But that is all in the past and I am not bitter at all. Now, lets look at what is different about this Ranger team then all of the others. First, I think it is something that is not going to show up on the field. They all like eachother. They all hang out, dance, play, read, and talk like friends, not just teamates. They believe in eachother as people and they think that they can win. They seemed to be missing alot of that confidence over the past 5 seasons, but I think they have finally found it. The team that plays together, seems to win together. Second, they

are pitching much better then they did in the past. much better. The team ERA doesn’t show just how good they have been. (team ERA of 4.51, 6th in the league). Matt Harrison has thrown two complete games, Millwood has an ERA under 3, Padilla has thrown back to back 1 hitters, Feldman has a starting ERA under 1. None of that happened last season. Not even close over the last few seasons. I think most of the credit goes to team president Nolan Ryan for his commitment to a new program for training pitchers and to pitching coach Mike Maddox for helping the pitchers work hard to start the new program. The pitching has been fantastic. It is hard to believe that if you watch much Ranger baseball. But it is true. Also, the Ranger have 20 errors, tied with the Yankees for the third lowest total in all of the American league, and seventh in all of baseball. They did not do that at all over the past few seasons, comming in dead last the past two seasons. They are not giving away runs this season.

Nobody seems to believe that it is real yet, but the Rangers have the second best record in the AL. I do not believe that is a fluke. I think the Rangers are here to stay. They are young, talented, and now, they can pitch. The only thing that can stop them is themselves. I am not saying I think they will win the World Series this season or anything, but I can see them being a playoff power for the next 5 to 10 seasons at least if they keep doing things the way they are doing them now and don’t trade away their young talent. Tampa Bay did it that way, and I think Texas can as well. Oh yea, and as far as superstition goes, keep the Red jersys.

We Need a Bigger Broom

Rangers – 3

Angels – 0

The Rangers just finished sweeping their second straight AL West team, giving them a 4and a half game lead over the Angels. The Rangers are now 23-14, 9 games over .500. Could the Rangers be last years Rays? I sure hope so. It is early in the season, but their pitching has been untouchable. The Angels came in on a win streak (9 out of 11), and the Rangers just swept them. The Rangers get a day off tommorow, and then head to Detroit, where they were embarrased earlier this season. I’m thinking payback time!!! The Rangers have won 7 in a row.

Up Next:

The Rangers triple play event, tonight.

Then, off to Detroit, Tuesday night.

Brandon McCarthy, RHP (3-1, 5.92)  vs. Dontrelle Willis, LHP (0-0, 7.71)

Rangers keep Rolling

Rangers – 5

Angels – 3

John Lackey was tossed after two pitches for hitting Ian Kinsler with the second pitch of the day. They still pitched pretty well, but Padilla pitched better. Texas has now won 12 out of their last 14. They are 22-14. They have a 3 and a half game lead in the west.

Up Next:

The finalie of this series. The Rangers could take a dominate lead in the west with a win tommorow.

Scott Feldman, RHP (2-0, 4.85)  vs. Jered Weaver, RHP (3-1, 2.45)

Whew!!

Rangers – 10

Angels – 8

Millwood pitched a great game, he went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, while finally getting some run support from the offense. Holland came in and got 8 outs, but couldn’t get the 9th out, so the Ranger brought in O’Day to get it. He was also unsucessful. Finally, after waht seemed like an eternity, C.J. Wilson got the out and the Rangers hung on to win. They have now guarenteed they will be in first after this series even if the Angels win the next two. Hopefully, that won’t happen.

Up Next:

Vicente Padilla, RHP (2-2, 4.97)  vs. John Lackey, RHP (0-0, -.–)

This is Lackey’s 1st start of the year, comming off the DL today. Lets hope he does not have his best stuff today, seeing that he is a fantastic pitcher. The game is on FOX saturday baseball today, so, GO Rangers!!
